A soothing plant extract. Safe.
Kalanchoe Spathulata Extract (INCI Kalanchoe Spathulata Extract) is a leaf extract of a succulent rich in mucilage, organic acids and flavonoids. In a formula it works as a softening and moisturising botanical, and it gives a light soothing feel on irritated skin. The efficacy view is balanced. Kalanchoe sap has long been used in folk practice, but in cosmetics we are talking about a mild supporting action: hydration and comfort. This is a supporting botanical ingredient, not a proven therapeutic active, and serious independent clinical data on it are scarce. As a pleasant addition to a soothing formula it has its place. During pregnancy and breastfeeding the extract can be used. Applied topically in a product it is systemically negligible, with no restrictions. Tolerance is good. The irritation potential is low, the allergy risk is low, and the ingredient suits sensitive skin. As with any botanical extract, a reaction is possible in the rare predisposed person, but overall kalanchoe behaves gently.
