In a formula it works as a fragrant conditioning and mildly soothing component: it carries aroma compounds with a violet note and flavonoids, gives a pleasant scent, and provides light softening. It is primarily a fragrancing-conditioning botanical component rather than a strong active. Allergenicity. As with fragrant botanical components, contact allergy to iris aroma compounds is possible in sensitized people; most do not react. Pregnancy safety. Topical use is systemically negligible, with no evidence of harm. It can be used during pregnancy and lactation.
