INCI: Ubiquinone
Coenzyme involved in mitochondrial respiration. Its skin levels decline with age. An antioxidant protecting cell membranes from lipid peroxidation.
Topical application
BLimited evidence. One RCT or several controlled studies with limitations.
Pilot clinical studies show wrinkle reduction and texture improvement with prolonged use. Antioxidant activity confirmed in vitro. No large independent RCTs. Penetration through the stratum corneum is limited – works better in nano-formulations.
Ubiquinone (CoQ10, coenzyme Q10) is a coenzyme of the mitochondrial electron transport chain. With age its skin content drops by 50% by age 60. An antioxidant with a unique property – it is regenerated to the active form by the cell's NADH system, unlike vitamins C and E, which are consumed irreversibly. Mechanism. Protects membrane phospholipids from lipid peroxidation. In mitochondria it takes part in ATP synthesis – cellular energy. In skin it suppresses UV-induced MMP-1 (collagenase) production, slowing photoageing. Topical bioavailability depends on form: ubiquinone (oxidised) penetrates poorly, ubiquinol (reduced) – better. Where applied. Anti-ageing serums and creams, eye-area products. In Spain – in Nivea Q10, Eucerin Q10 Active, ISDIN Isdinceutics Hyaluronic Concentrate lines. Use levels in finished formulas: 0.1-1%. Evidence base. Hoppe 1999 in a placebo-controlled study in 73 women over 6 months of 0.3% CoQ10 showed a 27% reduction in periorbital wrinkle depth. Knott 2015 confirmed reduced MMP-1 expression in skin after UV exposure. The effect is more modest than retinol, but tolerability is better. Safety. CIR confirmed safety. Non-sensitising, non-comedogenic. Does not photosensitise. Pregnancy and lactation – safe. Topical use without restrictions. Oral CoQ10 (100-300 mg/day) in pregnancy is safe per AEMPS and FDA. Suited for. Mature skin with photoageing signs, patients who do not tolerate retinoids, post-aggressive-protocol skin recovery.

The Evigrade extension adds an evidence panel to Wildberries, Goldapple, Letu, iHerb, Sephora and 12 more stores. This ingredient and every other one in the product show evidence-tier, allergen risk and pregnancy/lactation flags at a glance.
Ubiquinone (CoQ10) is considered safe during pregnancy at typical cosmetic concentrations. Systemic absorption through the skin is minimal.
Ubiquinone (CoQ10) suits: normal, dry, sensitive, combination.
