Acacia Senegal Gum (gum arabic) is a branched arabinogalactan polysaccharide collected from the dried sap of the Acacia senegal tree. Used as a natural thickener and emulsion stabilizer in cosmetics, pharmaceuticals, and food. Mechanism. On skin it forms a thin film with a mild tightening sensation: as the polymer dries it contracts and briefly tightens the surface – an 'instant lift' photo effect. The effect is purely mechanical and reversible, gone after rinsing. Where applied. Peel-off masks and express serums for 20–30 minutes before an event, brow and lash gels, emulsion stabilization in creams and toothpaste. Concentration 0.1–10% depending on role. In Spanish pharmacy brands – a component of Endocare and Mesoestetic 'instant lifting' masks. Safety. CIR confirmed safety at cosmetic concentrations in 2005. Hypoallergenic, non-irritating, non-comedogenic. The molecule is too large to cross the epidermis, so no systemic action. Pregnancy and lactation – safe for topical use without restriction. Functional role. No standalone anti-aging or moisturizing benefit – works as a formula structurant.
