Alpha-Terpinene is a natural terpene, a scent component of many essential oils (tea tree, citrus, conifers). INCI: Alpha-Terpinene. In a formula it is used as a fragrance with a fresh citrus-woody note. It is an aroma component, not a skincare active. It has no action on skin and is added for scent. Allergenicity. Alpha-Terpinene oxidizes readily in air, and the oxidation products are counted among potential contact allergens. A reaction is possible in sensitized people; most do not react. Pregnancy safety. At cosmetic concentrations systemic absorption is low and there is no evidence of harm with topical use. Irritation potential is low.
