Pinene is a terpene hydrocarbon, the main scent component of conifer and many essential oils. INCI: Pinene. In a formula it gives a fresh resinous-pine aroma. It is a fragrance component, not a skincare active. It has no action on skin and is added for scent. Allergenicity. Pinene oxidizes readily in air, and the oxidation products are counted among potential contact allergens. Contact allergy is possible in sensitized people; most do not react.
