Butane is a liquefied hydrocarbon gas. INCI: Butane. In a formula it has one job: it serves as a propellant in aerosols, creating pressure in the can and pushing the product out as a spray or foam (mousses, dry shampoos, foams, spray deodorants). It is a functional component, not a skincare active. It does not act on skin, and after spraying the gas evaporates quickly. Safety. It is flammable, like all aerosol propellants, so cans are kept away from fire. On skin it is inert. Pregnancy safety: topically systemically negligible, with no evidence of harm. Tolerance.
