It inhibits the scalp yeast Malassezia, which is involved in dandruff and seborrheic dermatitis, and so reduces flaking and itching. Here we are talking about an active that works, not a decorative ingredient. Ciclopirox has solid backing as an antifungal, and its use against dandruff is well founded. For skin and scalp prone to seborrhea, it is a sensible ingredient.
