Ciclopirox Olamine (INCI: Ciclopirox Olamine) is an antifungal active used in cosmetics mainly in anti-dandruff products. It inhibits the scalp yeast Malassezia, which is involved in dandruff and seborrheic dermatitis, and so reduces flaking and itching. Here we are talking about an active that works, not a decorative ingredient. Ciclopirox has solid backing as an antifungal, and its use against dandruff is well founded. For skin and scalp prone to seborrhea, it is a sensible ingredient. In cosmetics it is used at low concentrations and systemic absorption is minimal, so in topical use it can be used during pregnancy and breastfeeding; even so, if a marked therapeutic effect is the goal, it is worth checking with a doctor. Described tolerance is good, with low irritation potential and low allergy risk. In most people it causes no reactions.
