Coralline Malt Extract is a marketing name for a combination of Corallina officinalis algae extract and malt (barley) extract. Used as an 'active complex' in niche formulations. Composition. From coralline – calcium and magnesium carbonates, amino acids, polysaccharides. From malt – maltose, beta-glucans, B vitamins, amino acids, enzymes. Marketed as a mineral + barrier-restoring complex. Mechanism. Malt beta-glucans have humectant and barrier-restoring properties in lab models. Coralline minerals supplement the formula as a trace element source. The direct skin mechanism of this specific complex has not been characterized. Where applied. Niche moisturizing creams, serums with a 'marine + minerals' marketing angle, products for sensitive and dehydrated skin in Asian and European artisan lines. Evidence base. No direct RCTs on the complex. Limited in vitro data on individual components. Skin efficacy in patients has not been evaluated. Safety. Low risk of irritation and allergy. In patients with celiac disease or gluten intolerance a reaction to malt extract is theoretically possible – rare and only with systemic exposure, not with topical use. Pregnancy and lactation – safe by composition. No direct data, but the known components don't carry risk profiles. Best suited to: dry and dehydrated skin. More of a marketing complex than an active with proven efficacy.
