Azelamide MEA is an amide derivative of azelaic acid paired with monoethanolamine, more soluble and easier to formulate than pure azelaic acid. In a formula it aims to calm the skin, support a more even tone and give some control on blemish-prone skin. It is used in serums and creams for combination or acne-prone skin. The idea is interesting, but it is fair to be honest: the direct clinical evidence for this derivative is noticeably thinner than for classic azelaic acid. It works as a supporting active focused on soothing and toning, not as a treatment equal in strength to standard azelaic acid. Useful as a complement, not a replacement. With topical use it has no systemic relevance, so you can use it during pregnancy and breastfeeding, a period in which azelaic acid has a good tolerance record. Tolerance is good: irritation and allergy are both low, and it suits sensitive and reactive skin.
