Dimethyl MEA (deanol, DMAE) is an amino alcohol marketed as a firming anti-aging active. INCI: Dimethyl MEA. In a formula it works with a claimed lifting effect: on application it gives a temporary feel of firmer, tighter skin. Some studies show a short-term firming effect, but the mechanism is debated and data on a lasting anti-aging result are limited and mixed. The effect is largely immediate and temporary, so it is a supporting active with cautious expectations rather than a proven treatment. Pregnancy safety. Topical use is systemically negligible, with no evidence of harm, but in pregnancy actives with a mixed base are usually postponed. Tolerance.
