Tuberose Absolute is a concentrated aromatic extract from Polianthes tuberosa flowers, produced by solvent extraction followed by wax removal. Used in perfumery and cosmetics as a fragrance with an exotic white-floral profile. Composition. Contains methyl anthranilate, benzyl benzoate, farnesol, indole, eugenol – aromatic molecules. Several of them (farnesol, eugenol, benzyl benzoate) are known skin allergens that must be labelled in the EU above threshold concentrations. Where applied. Perfumery (Frédéric Malle Carnal Flower, Tom Ford Tubéreuse Nue), luxury creams and serums as an olfactory accent. In skincare it is rare, with use levels <0.1%. Evidence base. No therapeutic effects on skin. The function is purely olfactory. Safety. Per IFRA Standards 2024 – limited to 1.0% in leave-on face products. Because of the allergen content, listing on the ingredient label is recommended. In patients sensitive to fragrance – avoid. Pregnancy and lactation – use with caution. For pregnant women with worsened skin reactivity (often in the 1st and 3rd trimester) fragrance-free products are a better choice. Suited for. Perfumery and cosmetics without sensitivity issues. Patients prone to contact dermatitis – avoid.
