Ulmus Davidiana Root Extract is an extract from a plant of East Asian medicine (Korea, China). In traditional Korean medicine it is used for burns, skin inflammation, and wound healing. Composition. Contains tannins, flavonoids (catechin, quercetin), and phytosterols. Claimed activity – anti-inflammatory and astringent. Where applied. K-beauty brands (Pyunkang Yul, Some By Mi), sheet masks and patches, soothing serums. Pyunkang Yul Essence Toner is the best-known product with this extract as the first ingredient (replacing water). In Europe it appears in niche K-beauty lines. Evidence base. Yang 2019 in keratinocyte cell models showed anti-inflammatory effects via NF-κB suppression and TNF-α reduction. No clinical RCTs on human skin exist. In vivo in mice – accelerated healing of thermal burns. Safety. CIR has not assessed it separately. No known serious reactions. Non-sensitising, non-comedogenic. Pregnancy and lactation – no data, but topical systemic absorption is minimal and theoretical risk is nil. Realistic expectations. A marketing-driven K-beauty ingredient with moderate in vitro activity. Suited for sensitive skin as part of a multi-step Korean routine. It does not replace niacinamide or centella asiatica but can be a gentle add-on.
