BLimited evidence. One RCT or several controlled studies with limitations.
A functional humectant. Safe at cosmetic levels.
Decanediol (same INCI) is a diol with a dual role: it holds water as a humectant and gives a mild antimicrobial action that helps keep the formula fresh. That is why it often accompanies or boosts the preservative system. On efficacy, it is mainly a functional, multitasking component rather than a skincare active in the strict sense. It improves the humectant feel and product stability. Do not expect an anti-aging or brightening effect from it. During pregnancy and breastfeeding it is fine to use topically. Tolerance is good: low irritation and low allergy potential, suitable for sensitive skin. At use levels it does not dry out skin. An individual reaction is possible but uncommon.
