In a formula it works as an oil-phase thickener and an emollient that softens skin. It is a functional texture component, not a care active. Its role is structural and tactile: it gives body to creams and sticks and leaves a soft feel. The mild emollient effect on skin is real, but it is not an ingredient with a proven effect on its own. Topically it has no systemic relevance, so it can be used during pregnancy and breastfeeding. Tolerance is good and the allergy potential is low.
