BLimited evidence. One RCT or several controlled studies with limitations.
A functional emollient. Safe.
Hydrogenated Olive Oil is olive oil with added hydrogen, which makes it thicker and semisolid. It adds body to balms and creams, softens skin, and reinforces the surface lipid layer. This is a functional component with some barrier value. Its main job is texture and light occlusion: it leaves skin soft and helps slow water loss. It is not a corrective active, though its barrier support is useful on dry skin. It acts at the surface with no meaningful systemic absorption, so its use during pregnancy and breastfeeding is fine. Tolerance is good: low irritation potential and low allergy risk. Comedogenicity is moderate (2), worth considering on oily or acne-prone skin, especially in rich occlusive formulas, where it is better to watch how the skin responds.
