Lavender Flower Water (Lavandula Angustifolia Flower Water) is a narrow-leaved lavender hydrolate obtained by steam distillation of flowers. Unlike the essential oil, it contains fewer volatile components: linalool and linalyl acetate at 0.1–0.3%. Mechanism. Linalool in vitro shows moderate anti-inflammatory effect in keratinocyte culture (Peana 2002). The scent triggers relaxation through the limbic system and is used in aromatherapy formulations. On skin works as a toning ingredient with light fragrance effect. Where applied. Toners, mists, refreshing sprays (5–30%), sensitive-skin cosmetics. Brands include Caudalie Eau de Beauté, Mádara, Spanish organic brands Naobay, Freshly Cosmetics. Evidence base. Topical RCTs are few; main interest is aromatherapeutic. Dermatology guidelines do not mention. Safety. CIR confirmed safety. Allergen content (linalool) is low, but in patients with confirmed lavender contact allergy a reaction is possible. EU SCCS requires linalool declaration above 0.001% in leave-on products. Pregnancy – manufacturers recommend caution in the first trimester due to theoretical estrogenic effect with oral use. Topical cosmetic concentrations show almost no systemic absorption. In lactation – avoid on breast and nipples (taste, smell).
