An edelweiss extract with antioxidants. It soothes and helps protect skin from free radicals. Well tolerated.
Topical application
BLimited evidence. One RCT or several controlled studies with limitations.
An antioxidant plant extract. Safe.
Alpine edelweiss extract (INCI: Leontopodium Alpinum Flower/Leaf Extract) comes from a high-mountain plant rich in antioxidant compounds such as leontopodic acid and chlorogenic acid derivatives. In cosmetics it is used for its soothing and antioxidant profile, to help protect skin against free radicals. On efficacy, it is a supporting botanical active. There is in vitro data backing its antioxidant action, but clinical evidence on human skin is still limited. It adds value within a well-built formula, and it is best not to expect a standalone anti-aging effect from it. Topically its systemic absorption is negligible, so it can be used during pregnancy and breastfeeding. Tolerance is good: low irritation potential and low allergy risk. As with any botanical extract, very reactive skin or a known allergy to the Asteraceae family may want to watch its response, though most people have no trouble.
