Poria Cocos Sclerotium Extract is an East Asian medicinal fungus (fu-ling, 茯苓). Contains polysaccharides (pachyman, triglycosides), triterpenoids (poricoic acid), sterols. Where applied. K-beauty and Japanese cosmetics, creams, toners, masks (0.5-2%). Marketed as an anti-inflammatory and moisturising component. Evidence base. In vitro shows anti-inflammatory activity of poricoic acid via NF-κB suppression. Clinical topical RCTs in humans are essentially absent. Systemic data exist for oral use in oedema in TCM, unrelated to skin. Safety. Allergic reactions rare. Possible sensitisation in mushroom-allergic people. Pregnancy and lactation – insufficient data. Topical use at cosmetic concentrations is considered acceptable.
