About this ingredient
Mango Butter (Mangifera Indica Seed Butter) is a solid plant butter from mango kernels. Composition: oleic acid (40–50%), stearic (30–40%), palmitic (5–10%), linoleic (1–6%). Mechanism. Occlusive and emollient – forms a soft protective film, retains moisture. Stearic and palmitic acids replenish stratum corneum lipids. Contains tocopherols and carotenoids (antioxidants). Solid at room temperature, melts on contact with skin. Where applied. Body creams, lip balms, stretch-mark balms, very-dry-skin and cuticle products. Concentration 3–25%. In Spain in craft lines, niche spa brands, pregnancy balms. Often in blends with shea and cocoa butter. Evidence base. No topical clinical RCTs. Evidence rests on empirical use and lipid composition. CIR confirmed safety. Safety. Comedogenicity 2 of 5 – in acne patients it may trigger comedones on the face. On body and dry skin the comedogenic risk is minimal. Allergic reactions are rare. Cross-reaction is possible in patients allergic to birch pollen and mango. Pregnancy and lactation – safe. Good base for stretch-mark balms and nipple cracks during breastfeeding (in the absence of allergy).
