Oryza Sativa Starch is the starch obtained from rice. In cosmetics it is used as a mattifying and absorbing agent: it forms a soft powdery layer that picks up sebum, cuts shine and removes the sticky feel in creams, powders and bases. It works as a texture and finish ingredient, not as an active that transforms skin. Its mattifying effect is real but temporary and surface-level. It does not truly regulate sebum production or improve skin quality over the long term. Applied topically it has no systemic relevance, so it can be used during pregnancy and breastfeeding without reservations. Tolerance is very good. Irritation and allergy potential are low, which makes it suitable for sensitive skin. In cosmetic formulas most people tolerate it with no reaction.
