Resinous substance bees collect from plant buds. Contains flavonoids and phenolic acids with in vitro antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory activity. Possible contact allergy in beekeepers and people sensitive to resins.
Topical application
BLimited evidence. One RCT or several controlled studies with limitations.
Accumulated in vitro data on anti-inflammatory and antibacterial effects. Pilot human trials in acne and wound healing. Known contact allergen (~2-3% population).
Propolis Extract is an alcoholic or glycolic extract of propolis. Contains the same actives as raw propolis: flavonoids (galangin, pinocembrin, chrysin), phenolic acids, CAPE esters. Where applied. Serums, toners, ampoules, problem-skin products (0.5-5%). Alcoholic extracts are more active but also more irritating. Glycolic – milder. Evidence base. Data overlap with raw propolis (see propolis card): antimicrobial activity against Cutibacterium acnes, anti-inflammatory effect, accelerated wound healing. Sirin (2018) – reduction in acne lesions over 8 weeks. Safety. High allergenic potential: contact dermatitis in 1-3% of the general population, up to 30% in beekeepers (Walgrave 2005). Patch test on inner elbow for 48-72 hours before regular use. Pregnancy and lactation – use with caution. In lactation, avoid application on breast and on hands before infant contact (risk of allergic sensitisation in the child). In pregnancy, data are insufficient; no EU restriction, but AAD recommends avoiding new allergens.

The Evigrade extension adds an evidence panel to Wildberries, Goldapple, Letu, iHerb, Sephora and 12 more stores. This ingredient and every other one in the product show evidence-tier, allergen risk and pregnancy/lactation flags at a glance.
Propolis Extract is considered safe during pregnancy at typical cosmetic concentrations. Systemic absorption through the skin is minimal.
Propolis Extract suits: normal, oily, combination. Use with caution in: sensitive, dry.
Propolis Extract has high allergen potential. Perform a patch test on the inner forearm 24 hours before facial application.
