BLimited evidence. One RCT or several controlled studies with limitations.
A toning plant extract. Safe.
Prunus Mume Fruit Extract is the extract of the ume or Japanese apricot fruit, rich in organic acids (such as citric and malic) and polyphenols. It's used in toners and serums for its toning, refreshing feel. On efficacy: a supporting ingredient. Organic acids give a mild astringency and the polyphenols add some antioxidant capacity, but at usual extract levels it doesn't act as a true acid exfoliant. Broader claims about brightening or firming have little clinical backing. Take it as a pleasant sensory adjunct. Topical use during pregnancy and breastfeeding poses no problem. Tolerance is good, with low irritation and allergy potential. Suitable for sensitive skin. As with any acidic fruit extract, a patch test is reasonable for very reactive skin.
