Baikal skullcap leaf extract (Scutellaria Baicalensis Leaf Extract) is an extract from Baikal skullcap leaves. The active profile is close to root extract, but baicalin and baicalein concentrations in leaves are lower than in the root. Also contains the flavonoid scutellarein, essential oils, tannins. Where applied. In niche K-beauty and Japanese formulas for sensitive skin (0.1-1%), in anti-pollution products, combined with other parts of the same plant for enhanced effect. On the Spanish market – in niche K-beauty stores, rarely in mass brands. Evidence base. Most data are in vitro for baicalin and baicalein (antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, inhibition of UV-induced collagen degradation). Direct clinical RCTs of topical leaf extract application in humans are essentially absent. Marketing claims rest on root extract data. Safety. EU CosIng permits use. Allergic reactions are rare. Mass-use experience outside Asia is limited. Pregnancy and lactation – use with caution. Similar to flower and root extracts – by consensus due to lack of data manufacturers recommend avoiding in pregnancy. In lactation – UNKNOWN.
