INCI: Curcuma Longa Root Extract
Turmeric root extract with curcuminoids. Antioxidant with anti-inflammatory potential; concentrated formulas can stain skin yellow.
Topical application
CWeak evidence. In vitro data, open-label studies, or expert consensus.
Systematic reviews record a moderate curcuma effect in acne and hyperpigmentation. Curcumin bioavailability in skin is low, so the formula strongly depends on delivery technology.
Curcuma Longa Extract (turmeric) is derived from the rhizome of Curcuma longa, native to South and Southeast Asia. Contains curcuminoids (curcumin, demethoxycurcumin, bisdemethoxycurcumin), essential oils. Used in Indian and Ayurvedic medicine for millennia. Mechanism. Curcumin suppresses NF-κB and reduces expression of pro-inflammatory cytokines (TNF-α, IL-6, IL-1β). Antioxidant activity comparable to vitamin E. Inhibits tyrosinase – hence brightening potential. Antibacterial activity in vitro against Cutibacterium acnes, Staphylococcus aureus. Where applied. Serums and creams against hyperpigmentation, anti-inflammatory products, products for oily and acne-prone skin, face masks. In Spain – Apivita, Sukin, niche artisan brands and in Ayurvedic lines. Evidence base. Vaughn 2016 meta-analysis: oral and topical curcumin reduces symptom severity in patients with psoriasis, acne, atopic dermatitis. Topical RCTs typically use curcumin at 1-5% – improvement vs placebo at 4-8 weeks. Standardized extract works better than the root itself in oils. Safety. CIR confirmed Curcuma Longa Root Extract safe in cosmetic use. Allergic reactions are rare. The main practical limitation is the intense yellow color of the molecule: high concentrations stain skin and clothing yellow. Pregnancy and lactation topically – with caution. Curcumin isn't banned in pregnancy and lactation, but high oral doses (over 1 g/day) are best avoided. Topical cosmetic concentrations (up to 1%) are safe. Best suited to: hyperpigmentation, acne-prone skin, post-acne pigmentation, mild inflammatory dermatoses. Caution in sensitive skin and a tendency to contact dermatitis.

SafeThe Evigrade extension adds an evidence panel to Wildberries, Goldapple, Letu, iHerb, Sephora and 12 more stores. This ingredient and every other one in the product show evidence-tier, allergen risk and pregnancy/lactation flags at a glance.
Curcuma Longa Extract is considered safe during pregnancy at typical cosmetic concentrations. Systemic absorption through the skin is minimal.
