Glycol Montanate is an ester of montan wax (a mineral wax of fossilised plant origin). On the label it reads Glycol Montanate. In a formula it works as a thickener and consistency agent: it adds body, helps structure denser creams and improves emulsion stability. On efficacy, place it precisely: it is a functional texture component, not a treatment active. It has no anti-ageing or moisturising effect of its own; its task is to give the product firmness and body. In that role it performs reliably. For pregnancy and breastfeeding there is no reason for caution. It is a waxy component that stays on the surface with no meaningful systemic impact, so it can be used. Tolerance is high. Irritation and allergy are low. Its comedogenicity is very low (1 out of 5), so it rarely clogs pores, though on very oily skin, as with any wax, watch how it responds.
