Its role is functional: it helps blend the oil phase with the water phase, stabilizes the formula and leaves a softer feel. It is not a skincare active but a structural ingredient. So it does not treat wrinkles, pigmentation or inflammation. Its value is in keeping the cream or serum stable, uniform and pleasant to apply. In that role it performs well.
