Propylene glycol laurate (INCI: Propylene Glycol Laurate) is an ester of propylene glycol and lauric acid that works as an emulsifier and co-emollient. Its role is functional: it helps blend the oil phase with the water phase, stabilizes the formula and leaves a softer feel. It is not a skincare active but a structural ingredient. So it does not treat wrinkles, pigmentation or inflammation. Its value is in keeping the cream or serum stable, uniform and pleasant to apply. In that role it performs well. Applied to skin it has no meaningful systemic absorption, so it can be used during pregnancy and breastfeeding. Tolerance is good. Irritation and allergy potential is low and the surfactant is mild, so the risk of drying the skin is limited. Very reactive skin, as always, should weigh the whole formula.
