BLimited evidence. One RCT or several controlled studies with limitations.
A plant toning extract. Safe; sensitive skin watches menthol.
Peppermint extract (INCI Mentha Piperita Extract) comes from the leaves of the plant. It supplies menthol and other aromatic compounds, and in cosmetics it is used for its fresh sensation and a light toning feel on skin. On efficacy, the honest framing is a sensation component rather than a treatment active. The freshness is real, but it comes from menthol and is a sensory effect, not an action that improves wrinkles, pigment or barrier. Do not expect a measurable skin benefit from it. Systemic exposure from topical use is negligible, so it can be used in pregnancy and breastfeeding. There is a tolerance nuance here. Irritation risk is low, but allergy potential is medium, and menthol can bother sensitive or reactive skin with stinging or itching. Most people tolerate it fine, but those with reactive skin should watch how it responds and avoid using it near the eyes.
