A softening plant extract. Safe.
Tiare flower extract (INCI: Gardenia Taitensis Flower Extract) comes from the flower used to make Tahitian monoi. In cosmetics it gives emollience and a soothing effect plus its signature scent, and it appears in oils, body creams, and monoi-inspired products. As an active it is supporting. Its main role is sensory and emollient: it softens and gives comfort. It is credited with antioxidant and soothing properties, but the clinical base is limited, so it is better judged by the use experience than by a corrective action. For topical use there is no relevant systemic risk. It can be used during pregnancy and breastfeeding. Overall tolerance is good, with low irritation and allergy potential. As a floral extract with a natural scent, very reactive skin or a fragrance allergy calls for a patch test first. It is not noted as comedogenic.
