Rice bran wax (INCI Oryza Sativa Cera) is a plant wax obtained from rice bran. In a formula it thickens the oil phase and gives a firm, dense texture, useful for sticks, balms and solid formulas. It improves product hardness and leaves a smooth finish. It is a functional texture-and-structure component, not a skincare active. It corrects neither wrinkles nor dark spots: its role is to give body and consistency. It is a plant alternative to beeswax or carnauba with good structuring ability, and it does that technical job. Topically it has no systemic relevance, so it can be used during pregnancy and breastfeeding. Tolerance is good, with low irritation and allergy. Comedogenicity is very low (1 of 5), suitable for most skin types, though at high levels waxes can feel occlusive on very oily skin.
