In cosmetics it thickens a formula and gives a soft gel texture, helping to stabilize the product and add body. This is a functional thickening and stabilizing ingredient, not a care active. It sets texture and the feel of application, but it does not treat the skin. Judging it as an active does not fit, since its role is structural. Topically it is not systemically relevant, so it can be used during pregnancy and breastfeeding without concern. Tolerance is high, with low irritation and allergy potential, suitable for sensitive skin. It is not comedogenic at usual concentrations.
