Water pepper extract (INCI Persicaria Hydropiper Extract) is obtained from the plant Persicaria hydropiper and supplies flavonoids and other plant compounds. In cosmetics it is used for a soothing effect and to keep a feeling of freshness and comfort on the skin. On efficacy, flavonoids have antioxidant and anti-inflammatory activity in lab models, but direct clinical evidence for this extract is scarce. It fits as a supporting component in soothing routines, without promising striking results on its own. Topically it has no systemic relevance, so it can be used during pregnancy and breastfeeding. Tolerance is good: low irritation and low allergy risk, suitable for sensitive skin. An individual reaction is unlikely, though as with any plant extract it cannot be fully ruled out.
