A soothing plant extract. Safe.
Burdock root extract (INCI: Arctium Lappa Root Extract) is a plant extract with inulin, tannins and phenolic acids. In a formula it is used for its soothing effect and for gently helping to regulate excess oil, which fits products for combination or shine-prone skin. On efficacy, it is a supporting ingredient. It has a tradition of use and a reasonable antioxidant profile, but direct clinical evidence is limited. It adds to a well-built formula without being a decisive active on its own. Applied topically it poses no systemic risk, so it can be used during pregnancy and breastfeeding. The described tolerance is good, with low irritation potential and low allergy risk. Burdock belongs to the Asteraceae family, so anyone with a known allergy to that family should take care; most people see no reaction.
