A soothing plant extract. Safe.
Anemarrhena root extract (INCI: Anemarrhena Asphodeloides Root Extract) is a plant extract used in Asian cosmetic tradition. It supplies compounds such as steroidal saponins and is added for its soothing action and for helping to support skin hydration. On efficacy, it is a supporting ingredient. There are interesting preliminary data on its anti-inflammatory profile, but human clinical evidence remains limited. It adds to a well-built soothing formula without being a front-line active on its own. Applied topically it poses no systemic risk, so it can be used during pregnancy and breastfeeding. The described tolerance is good, with low irritation potential and low allergy risk. As with any botanical extract, on very reactive skin it is best introduced slowly, but most people see no reaction.
