Burdock root extract (INCI: Arctium Majus Root Extract) comes from the root of greater burdock, with inulin and phenolic compounds. In cosmetics it gives a soothing feel and shows some ability to slow microbial growth, so it is common in formulas for oily skin. This is a functional supporting ingredient. Its soothing and microbial-control action at the formula level is reasonable, but as an acne-treatment active its clinical backing is modest. It does not replace a proven sebum-regulating ingredient. Topically it has no systemic relevance, so it can be used during pregnancy and breastfeeding. Good tolerance: low risk of irritation and allergy, fine for sensitive and oily skin.
