A plant extract. Safe.
African mahogany bark extract (INCI: Khaya Senegalensis Bark Extract) is a plant extract added to creams and serums aimed at mature skin. It contains polyphenolic compounds and is used for its antioxidant and soothing profile. On efficacy, it is worth being honest: this is a supporting ingredient. There are interesting in-vitro data, but human clinical evidence is thin. It can add to a well-built formula, though it does not replace anti-aging actives with solid backing such as retinoids or vitamin C. Applied topically it poses no systemic risk, so it can be used during pregnancy and breastfeeding. The described tolerance is good, with low irritation potential and low allergy risk. As with any botanical extract, on very reactive skin it is best introduced slowly, but most people see no reaction.
