Litchi pericarp extract (INCI Litchi Chinensis Pericarp Extract) comes from the rind of the lychee fruit. In a formula it works as an antioxidant ingredient: lychee rind is rich in polyphenols and proanthocyanidins that help the skin resist oxidative stress from the environment. On efficacy this is a supporting botanical antioxidant. Lychee polyphenols show decent antioxidant activity in lab tests, but clinical skin data is limited, so realistically expect a mild protective contribution within a formula. Used topically the extract has no systemic relevance, so it can be used during pregnancy and breastfeeding without restriction. Tolerance is good.
