An antioxidant plant extract. Safe.
Carrot extract (INCI Daucus Carota Sativa Extract) is a botanical extract rich in carotenoids, the pigments that give the root its orange color. In cosmetics it is added for a supporting antioxidant profile: carotenoids help curb part of oxidative stress and lend a sense of even tone to the skin. On efficacy, it works as a supporting component within the antioxidant and protection categories. Carotenoids have a basis as antioxidants, but the useful concentration in a cream is usually low, so it is realistic to see it as a formula adjunct rather than a lead active. Applied topically it has no systemic relevance, so it can be used during pregnancy and breastfeeding. Tolerance is good, with low irritation and allergy potential, suitable for sensitive skin. Already-sensitized people may see an occasional reaction, though most do not.
