Astaxanthin is a carotenoid and one of the strongest natural antioxidants. In a formula it works as an antioxidant: it neutralizes free radicals, supports defense against UV oxidative stress, and shows anti-inflammatory potential. Astaxanthin has a solid antioxidant base and growing data for topical use in photoaging, though as a bright red-orange carotenoid it needs stabilization in the formula.
