A bougainvillea leaf cell-culture extract. It supports antioxidant defense and skin firmness. Well tolerated.
Topical application
BLimited evidence. One RCT or several controlled studies with limitations.
An antioxidant plant extract. Safe.
Bougainvillea leaf cell extract (INCI: Bougainvillea Glabra Leaf Cell Extract) is produced by culturing plant cells in a lab rather than from the whole plant. It is added to serums and anti-aging creams for its polyphenols and other compounds with antioxidant activity. As an active it is a supporting component. Plant cell cultures usually have evidence limited to in vitro or brand studies rather than large clinical trials. It can add to a formula's antioxidant defense, but the basis for firm claims of firmness or anti-aging is modest. Applied topically it has no meaningful systemic absorption, so it can be used during pregnancy and breastfeeding. Tolerance is good, with low irritation and allergy risk, suitable for sensitive skin. As a plant extract, very sensitized skin could react occasionally, though that is uncommon.
