An oak leaf extract with tannins. It tones and supports the skin's antioxidant defense. Well tolerated.
Topical application
BLimited evidence. One RCT or several controlled studies with limitations.
A toning plant extract. Safe.
Mongolian oak leaf extract (INCI Quercus Mongolica Leaf Extract) comes from the leaves of Quercus mongolica and supplies tannins and other polyphenols. In cosmetics it is included for a toning, mildly astringent effect and to support the skin's antioxidant defense. On efficacy, tannins and polyphenols have measurable antioxidant activity in the lab, but clinical facial studies of this specific extract are limited. The reasonable view is to treat it as a supporting component within soothing and antioxidant formulas rather than an active with broadly proven results. Topically it has no systemic relevance, so it can be used during pregnancy and breastfeeding. Tolerance is good: low irritation and low allergy risk, suitable for sensitive skin. An individual reaction is possible but uncommon.
