A soothing plant extract. Safe.
Myrtle leaf extract (INCI: Myrtus Communis Leaf Extract) is a plant extract rich in tannins and polyphenolic compounds. In skin and scalp formulas it is used for its soothing and mildly astringent effect, which helps support the barrier function. On efficacy, it is a supporting ingredient. It has a reasonable antioxidant profile, but direct clinical evidence is limited. It adds to a well-built formula without being a front-line active on its own. Applied topically it poses no systemic risk, so it can be used during pregnancy and breastfeeding. The described tolerance is good, with low irritation potential and low allergy risk. Because of its tannin content a mild astringent feel can be noticed, worth keeping in mind on very dry skin, but most people tolerate it without reactions.
