A soothing plant extract. Safe.
Nelumbo Nucifera (Lotus) Flower Extract is an extract from the lotus flower. It supplies flavonoids and antioxidant compounds, and in cosmetics it is used as a calming, supporting hydrating ingredient. It appears in toners, serums and creams aimed at comfort and freshness for reactive skin. On efficacy, an honest read. Lotus flavonoids show antioxidant activity in the lab, but topical clinical evidence is modest. It is a supporting active that adds comfort and a light antioxidant touch, not a hero with a proven transforming effect. Its value depends on concentration and the rest of the formula. For topical use in pregnancy and breastfeeding there are no risk signals. Systemic absorption of a flower extract from skin is minimal, so it can be used in these stages. Tolerance is good. Low irritation and low allergy potential, suitable for sensitive skin. Most people see no reactions; flower extracts can sensitize in isolated cases, so very reactive skin can patch test first.
