A toning plant extract. Safe.
Ivy leaf and stem extract is obtained from the plant Hedera helix. INCI: Hedera Helix (Ivy) Leaf/Stem Extract. In a formula it works as a toning and soothing component: it contains saponins (hederacosides) traditionally credited with a decongestant and microcirculation-improving action, so the extract is often added to anti-cellulite and draining products. The topical evidence for these claims is modest and the effect is mild, so it is a supporting component rather than a lead active with a proven clinical result. Pregnancy safety. Topical use, low systemic absorption, no evidence of harm. It can be used during pregnancy and lactation. Tolerance. Irritation potential is low, but plant saponins are best introduced gradually on sensitive skin.
