An immortelle extract with antioxidants. It soothes and helps protect skin from oxidative stress. Well tolerated.
Topical application
BLimited evidence. One RCT or several controlled studies with limitations.
A soothing plant extract. Safe.
Helichrysum Stoechas Extract is an extract of everlasting flower, rich in antioxidant compounds such as flavonoids. On the label it reads Helichrysum Stoechas Extract. It is added to a formula to soothe skin and help defend it against oxidative stress from environmental factors. On efficacy the message needs balancing. Its extracts show antioxidant and soothing activity in lab studies, but the translation into a measurable clinical benefit on skin is less established. It is reasonable to see it as a supporting component within an antioxidant formula, not a substitute for vitamin C or niacinamide. For pregnancy and breastfeeding there are no warning signals for topical use at the usual concentrations. The extract is not a concentrated essential oil, so it can be used. Tolerance is good. Irritation and allergy are low. As with any botanical extract, someone already sensitised to plants of the Asteraceae family could react, though most see no problem.
