It supplies polyphenols and lignans with antioxidant action and is used to calm skin and reduce surface oxidative stress. On efficacy, this is a supporting component. The evidence base for its cosmetic use is modest, and most of it comes from lab assays rather than human skin studies. It adds to an antioxidant formula, but no visible change should be expected from it alone.
