A nourishing plant oil. Safe.
Pongamia glabra (karanja) seed oil (INCI: Pongamia Glabra Seed Oil) is a plant oil that nourishes and softens skin and supplies lipids that support the barrier. It carries its own flavonoids such as karanjin, traditionally linked to some light-filtering capacity. As a nourishing emollient it does well. The photoprotection idea needs a caveat: there is some lab support for UV absorption, but it does not act as a sunscreen and should not replace SPF. It is a supporting component, not a transformative active. Applied topically it has no systemic impact, so it can be used during pregnancy and breastfeeding. Tolerance is good, with low irritation and allergy potential. Comedogenicity is moderate (2 out of 5), worth keeping in mind for oily or acne-prone skin.
