A nourishing plant oil. Safe.
Flaxseed oil (INCI: Linum Usitatissimum Seed Oil) is a plant oil high in omega-3 fatty acids, chiefly alpha-linolenic acid. In a formula it nourishes skin, helps calm it and supplies lipids that support barrier function. As a nourishing emollient it does its job well, and the essential fatty acids make sense for dry, tight skin. One technical caveat: its omega-3 richness makes it oxidize easily, so the outcome depends on good packaging and a fresh product. It is a supporting component, not a transformative active. Applied topically it has no systemic impact, so it can be used during pregnancy and breastfeeding. Tolerance is good, with low irritation and allergy potential. Comedogenicity is moderate (2 out of 5), worth keeping in mind for oily or acne-prone skin.
