Flaxseed oil (INCI: Linum Usitatissimum Seed Oil) is a plant oil high in omega-3 fatty acids, chiefly alpha-linolenic acid. In a formula it nourishes skin, helps calm it and supplies lipids that support barrier function. As a nourishing emollient it does its job well, and the essential fatty acids make sense for dry, tight skin. One technical caveat: its omega-3 richness makes it oxidize easily, so the outcome depends on good packaging and a fresh product. It is a supporting component, not a transformative active.
