A plant extract. Safe.
Pongamia pinnata seed extract (INCI: Pongamia Pinnata Seed Extract) comes from a leguminous tree of southern Asia. In cosmetics it goes into soothing and protective formulas, where it brings plant compounds with some softening action on skin. On efficacy, it pays to stay realistic: solid human data are limited and much of the information comes from lab studies or the supplier. It works as a supporting botanical component alongside other actives, not as a standalone hero treatment. Topically, systemic uptake is negligible, so it can be used during pregnancy and breastfeeding. Tolerance is good and the allergy potential is low. Still, like any botanical extract, in people already sensitized to plants it may trigger a reaction; on most skin it causes no trouble.
