A red algae extract with antioxidants. It soothes and supports skin defense. Well tolerated.
Topical application
BLimited evidence. One RCT or several controlled studies with limitations.
An antioxidant marine extract. Safe.
Porphyra extract (INCI: Porphyra Umbilicalis Extract) comes from a red seaweed rich in mycosporine-like amino acids, polysaccharides and antioxidant compounds. In cosmetics it is used for its soothing effect and for supporting the skin's defence against oxidative stress. Efficacy should be read with restraint. It is a support ingredient of marine origin: its mycosporines absorb part of the light in lab work and its antioxidants neutralize free radicals, but direct clinical evidence is limited and it does not replace a sunscreen filter. It adds comfort and an antioxidant complement to the formula. Topically it has no systemic relevance, so it can be used during pregnancy and breastfeeding. Tolerance is good: low irritation and allergy potential, suitable for sensitive skin. Given its marine origin, the usual caution is sensible in people with a known allergy to seaweed or seafood.
